Montage Assignment Evaluation

                                                 Evaluation

I began The Montage Assignment by looking at various Montage examples shown on the internet. I became interested and highly inspired by Street Montage, so I collected some Images I took whilst visiting Manchester City Centre.

The layout of my Montage is similar to one included in my research by 'Jadey'. I used various colours that contrasted against each other and my aim was to include different shadows, figures and shapes to create interest.

The text positioned at the top of the Montage works well and the use of road signs ,as each are colourful and look interesting. I became inspired by an Image I included in my research which demonstrates a collaboration of road signs.

If I was given the opportunity to recreate the Montage I would have experimented more with the layout and I could have altered the perspective. I could have positioned large Images at the bottom of the montage getting smaller towards the top to give an illusion  of giant objects.

Evaluation Specialist Location

                                  Portrait Photography Evaluation

I began the Specialist Location Assignment by choosing a topic that would demonstrate my strengths and skills gained during the level 3 photography diploma.  During the course I have enjoyed many aspects of photography however i've taken a particular interest in Portrait Photography.
I designed a brief that displays a variety of photo-shoots taken over the last four weeks, the Images show different  photographic styles, ages and locations. The final outcome was to produce a portrait booklet A4 size which would be shown to potential clients. Unfortunately some Images have my name cropped off which was a small fault when the images came back from print.

Shoot 1 Female Studio Portrait

I began researching various portrait photography and became inspired by Images produced by Porcelain Portraits. This style of photography stands out and creatively captures family portraits within a fun environment. Before Photographing the first model I tried to adapt a similar style and technique to Images produced by Porcelain Portraits. I used various camera angles and focused on facial detail, especially when photographing children.
The results of the first photo-shoot were positive, and there were 90 photographs taken over a two and a half hour session. The client was photographed standing on a white backdrop wearing a variety of different clothing. The most successful Photograph was taken of the client sitting on a chair looking towards the camera,  she looks relaxed and natural. The least favourite Image was taken of the client wearing a blue dress. She looked nervous during these photographs and it was difficult to capture a relaxed pose, however towards the end of the photo-shoot  the client began to pose more confidently and I was able to produce some good photographs. If I was to re-shoot the model I would have used different coloured backdrops eg black to create an interesting atmosphere. I would have also used a variety of different props eg positioning the model posing on a vintage style chaise longue.

Shoot  2

Unfortunately I was unable to get permission to use the premises of St.Marks Church and the model was unable to attend, so I will be including just one location shoot which will be the Christening.

Shoot 3 Family

Before I began Photographing each of the families I studied some of the Images taken by Porcelain Portraits. I adapted a similar style to my own work by  taking close up photography of the childs face to capture detail. The childs face has been airbrushed which has been included in my own work.
I was able to capture lots of facial detail, his eyes are in focus and I have captured him laughing.

I enjoyed photographing two different families for this part of the assignment the first series of Images were taken of two children a boy aged six months and a girl aged four. The photoshoot was  challenging but highly rewarding. The young girl did not want to be photographed this particular day so various tactics were used to capture some good Images. Various puppets and toys were also used during the shoot to photograph the baby laughing and I was pleased with the final Images.  If I was given the chance to photograph this again then I would have spent more time Photographing the mother playing with her children as the Images I took of her them didn’t capture a fun happy atmosphere. The Images of the mother and children didn’t portray a relaxed atmosphere.

The second series of Photography was taken of a couple and their new-born baby boy. The shoot was quite stressful and I found it challenging positioning a six week old baby in various pose ideas as he was unable to support his own neck. I also didn’t get the opportunity to photograph the baby sleeping as he wouldn’t sleep during any of the session, so some of my sleep pose ideas were abandoned.  However after I had edited the Images I realised that I had captured some interesting shots and I was pleased with the outcome. When I presented the disc to the family I received very positive feedback.

Shoot 4 Christening/ Location Shoot

For the Christening shoot I arrived at the church before the guests, this was to capture people on arrival. I studied different Images taken by Arpi Pap Christening Photographer to broaden my ideas during the day. Some of the Photographs taken by Arpi Pap used depth of field and capture moments of the church ceremony in a creative style. I have used a similar style by positioning the camera from a distance focusing into the subject, however in my photograph I used the childs father as the main subject and the Image was taken during the gathering after ceremony.

I have included some Photoshop skills during the Christening Location shoot similar to an Image I studied in the research and planning. Photographer Lindsey Goddard has used a childs face in black and white and colour around her headband.

The Christening Location Shoot was paid work and I charged £60 for the day and will be presenting 50 Images to the customer fully edited. If I was given the oportunity to photograph the Christening again I would have taken more photographs during the church service to capture more of the ceremony.

Shoot 5 Corporation/Business Shoot

As part of the photography portrait booklet I wanted to include a variety of models  so I included a corporate shoot. I had also used mainly female models for the booklet so I chose to use a male model also. The client contacted me and asked if I would do some photography of him for a website for his business.  A total of 50 photographs were taken during the shoot but the client had a specific look he wanted to portray in his headshot.

The headshot would be used on a website for a Property Investment Management Business. The client was not satisfied at the end of his shoot so I offered to do a re-shoot and i asked him to find a photograph of his disired look.

The next day I photographed the client again and he was extremely happy with the outcome. I edited the final Images and applied a white backdrop, I used the blemish removal tool as the clients skin was blotchy in areas.

Experimental Photography Photographic Media

Experimental Brief

Rankin The Distroy Project!!!

Rankin has developed a variety of ideas that have been annotated in an artistic style and I will be creating some similar pieces of work myself. Some of my work will include black and white with red paint aplied to the Images. I will also be using some   abtsract Imagery I have created.

The First Image in my sketchbook was taken at The Christmas Markets and I photographed a bauble hanging on a large Christmas tree outside Selfridges in Manchester City Centre .The work has been highly influenced by Rankins Image of Kylie. I have applied a similar technique of paint to my work in a circular motion.

Throughout most of the work produced in my sketchbook ideas and insparation have come from 'Rankins' newspaper cutting of a human head. Two of my Images have incorporated layers of newspaper and paint.

I created a similar style of work to Rankins ( Lauren Carr, Rankin Analysis) In my sketchbook I have used parts of this collage to create my own version.

The Image of Gabby Rosling has influenced my work.I've used a similar painting technique by creatively splattering paint over the Photographs I have took.

Specialist Location Planning and Research

                                                                      Planning

For the Specialist Location Brief Unit 31 I will be producing a series of images based on studio portraiture , a family studio shoot, a portrait location shoot a christening and a corporate shoot. I will be present the Images in a portrait booklet A5 size which will display a combination of  glamour, location, family portrait,Events and corporate photography. I would like the booklet to show a variety of photographic style, and diversity of people. The booklet will consist of both colour and black and white Imagery.

The reason I have chosen to develop a series of Images based on portraiture is that I feel there is a market for this type of photography. Clients that have been used for this assignment are paying customers and will recieve their Images fully edited on a Disc with a complimentary print for £40.
The photography will consist of a combination of head shots and body shots of each of the models

To promote my photography business I have created a leaflet which will be distributed around different areas near my studio.

The camera I will is a Nikon D90 18,105 mm lens .During studio portrait shoots that I have done in the past the settings of the camera is  160th F11 which allow suffient light into the camera to portray nice bright Images. For the location shoot the camera setting will be ..

Research

At the begining of the Specialist Location Assignment I studied Images produced by a Portrait company called ,Porclain Portraits. The Images I have chosen to display in my planning demontraste a creative camera angle.

Throughout my assignment I have looked at ways to include this style in my own work.

The second example has been taken of a mother and her child. This image uses another creative camera angle and both apear to be enjoying the photography moment. The models skin apear to have been airbrushed which is a similar to the stlye I will include in my own work.

Throughout my assignment I have looked at ways to include this style in my own work

THE SHOOTS

I have divided each series of shoots and numbered them 1 to 5.

Shoot 1 Female Portraiture

For the first shoot I will develop a series of portrait photographs of a woman. The client will be photographed on a white backdrop and will be wearing casual/evening wear. I will be experimenting with various props during the shoot by placing a chair for the model to sit on and flowers/other items for the model to hold during the shoot. I will also be experimenting different composition ideas and positioning the camera from above looking down to create an interesting view point. I will also place the model on the floor and photograph from this angle. For the Images I will use two different lenses one will be a Nikon Portrait lens and Nikon 18 to 105 mm lens.

Test shots

Shoot 2 Location Portraiture

For the second series of photography I will phorograph the model in the grounds of a church/graveyard.

This Image was taken from the internet by (Oisin Vink) and will be a similar style to the Photography I will do. For this shoot I will be photographing the model wearing a glamorus dress standing up against harsh grey stone. The reason I have chosen to photograph in this style is to cotrast both glamour and plain. The Images will still be displayed as portraiture Photography but I have chosen to take the picures on location to create interest and show diversity within the portrait booklet. I will need to be aware of all types of weather conditions during this shoot so I will be equipting myself with various waterproof clothing and to protect the camera. I will speak to staff who manage the church for permission to use the grounds. If I cannot get permission to use the Church Grounds I will be photographing the model near Worsley Canal.

Family Shoot 3 Test shots

For this shoot I have chosen to Photograph two children one aged seven months and one aged four. I will Photograph the children sat on a large white backdrop and experiment with different poses during the shoot. I have suplied the studio with various puppets and childrens toys to use during the shoot to gain happy facial expressions from the children! The test shots taken have been edited by using photoshop to relieve any blochy patches on the skin. I have taken into consideration various risks health and safety( eg) wires and equiptment must be safely positioned in the studio. I have also included some photography from one other family shoot which may be included in my Photography Portrait booklet.

Events (Christening Photography) Shoot 4

For this part of the assignment I will be including a Christening. I will be using a flash which will be used during the church photgraphy as pictures may be dark. I will be arriving at the church before the visitors arrive to capture the atmosphere of guests on arrival. I will be asking the parents of the child if they would like Photographs of certain family members EG grandparents. If the weather is poor I will take the Photographs inside during the Christening after party. I will take waterproof equiptment for the camera.

The Images I like have been taken by Spiritual Photographer Arpi Pap. This style of Photography portrays a different approach to other Christening Photography I have seen, I'm interested in the variety of camera veiw point and depth of field.

I will be Photographing the interior of the church, this Image was taken by Christening Photographer Lindsey goddard.

I plan to use photoshop skills in some of the Images, altering black and white with a bright colour.

The Christening Shoot

Photography of the Christening outfit also took place before the day.

Test Shots

Taken from a previous Christening which may be used in the Photography portrait booklet.

Shoot 5  Corporate shoot,

For this part of the assignment I have included a corporate Photography shoot. The reason I have chosen to include these Images is to reflect diversity within the portrait booklet. I have also used mostly female models during the assignment so I have included a male customer.

Examples of corporate Photography

The Images was taken from a Business Photography Company called (Headshots London) .
